Summer
is fast approaching and Carl and Carrie Carrington and their two children, Cara
and Carter, are eagerly looking forward to visiting a National Park for the
week of July 8th to the 15th.
They want to spend five days at the park and one day learning about the Native
American Tribe in the area. They are so excited, but don’t know where
to begin. They do know that they would like to go to the Midwest, West, or Southwest.
They don’t know what state to go to, or what park to choose. They did
read that there is going to be a series of three programs on the TAM Television
Network that will highlight three National Parks – the “best pick”
in each region. They have decided that they will watch all three shows and pick
one of those three.
They are interested in a park:
Of course, Carl and Carrie are interested
in how much this will cost them as well. The write-up did say all these topics
would be included in the program — and maybe more. Their excitement is
building!
Your
team will do a mini-research
of the National Parks in your assigned region and pick one that meets the needs
of the Carrington family.
You personally will research the information for your role
on the park that is chosen.
Your research, and the product you choose to visualize that
information, will be presented on The Theodore Show, which your team
will organize.
Your purpose is to inform, entertain and persuade the Carrington
family to choose your park.

one of the following roles:
Historian - background information on the park
Cartographer - map of park and surrounding area, including
airport, hotel, Native American tribe
Geographer - the park's geography, including land forms, boundaries,
and bodies of water, etc.
Native American Cultural Agent - locate the nearest Native
American tribe and research them
Travel Agent - find the cost for flights, vehicle rental, hotel,
restaurant(s), park, etc., including total cost of vacation
Tour Guide - schedule
five days of activities at the park and one with the Native American Tribe
Naturalist - collect information about the climate, weather,
animals, and plants
You
will meet specific deadlines before appearing on The Theodore Show. When
you appear, you will be graded with this rubric.
Points will be taken off the rubric grade for deadlines not met.
